Doesn’t “therapy” just show people can’t solve thing on their own?
There are many things we can use therapy for in our lives. When we need counseling for stressful times in our lives it shows great strength to ask for help.
Why not just talk to a friend or family member?
Therapy is a type of treatment that helps individuals who are experiencing emotional or psychological distress to understand and manage their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a healthier way. Therapy can help people with a wide range of issues, from mild stress and anxiety to more serious mental health conditions like depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. These types of assistance takes skills and education to treat effectively.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.
What is it like in therapy sessions?
Therapy typically involves working with a trained mental health professional, such as a psychologist, therapist, or counselor, who provides a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space to explore the individual’s concerns. The therapist may use a variety of techniques to help the individual identify and understand the underlying causes of their difficulties, develop coping skills, and set achievable goals for change.
How long will it take?
Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.
